The most important changes in the new registrar agreement

The new agreement will mainly continue current practice and the established division of responsibilities between Norid and the registrars. The most important changes in the agreement were described when all registrars were invited to provide input to the proposed text of the new agreement

This is what you must do to continue as a registrar

In order to continue as a registrar you must sign the new registrar agreement and complete the required steps as listed below no later than 18 August 2021.

Preparations

Please note that you will need access to both the test system and the (live) production system in order to complete these steps.

Send an email to info@norid.no if you encounter problems with your login.

Step by step

  • 1
The agreement must be signed digitally. An email with a link to the agreement has been sent to you legal contact on the registrar web. If this is not the correct recipient, it is important that the link is forwarded to the person who shall sign the agreement on behalf of you as the registrar.
  • 2
Log into the registrar web and go to the tab Organizational. Register the name and contact information for the person that will be your primary contact.

Log into both of your test accounts on the registrar web in the test system. Registrer the same data there.

The primary contact is your contact person for Norid and has a very important role. You can find a more detailed description of the role here.

Please note that the primary contact must complete the registrar test.

The current legal contact and all technical contacts on the registrar web will be deleted from the production system and the test system as soon as the new agreement becomes effective for you.
  • 3
Go to the tab Users on the registrar web. Click on Search to see all registered users.

The new registrar agreement requires that all users are personal, and should not be shared. You must have at least one personal user with administrative (admin) rights. All users with admin rights in the production system must complete the registrar test.

You must delete any shared users, as well as any users that should no longer have admin rights to the registrar web.

Both of your test accounts on the registrar web in the test system must have at least one personal user with admin rights.

The user with user name admin will be removed from the production system and the test system as soon as the new agreement becomes effective for you.
  • 4
Go to the tab Accounting on the registrar web and check that the registered bank account number is correct. If you have not registered an account number, you must do so now.
  • 5
The person you registered as your primary contact must complete and pass the registrar test.

When your primary contact has completed the test, we will review it to check if the test was passed. In the test it is explained how you inform us that the test has been completed.

If other persons beside the primary contact shall have admin rights on the registrar web, they must also complete the registrar test. However, they do not need to notify us when the test has been completed.
  • 6
If the test has not been passed, the failed parts must be corrected.
  • 7
As soon as you have passed the test and added all necessary information on the registrar web, Norid will sign the registrar agreement.

You will receive an email to let you know that the new registrar agreement is in effect. You will also be added to a list of all registrars that have signed the new registrar agreement.

What happens if the new agreement is not in effect for you by the deadline?

If the new agreement between you and Norid has not become operative by 18 August 2021, you are no longer a registrar for Norid, and you will lose access to Norid's systems (EPP, registrar web and registrar whois). If you have not accepted the new terms by 18 August 2021, the current agreement and the contractual relationship is considered terminated, please see the current Registrar agreement, article 5, third paragraph.

If you lose access to our systems it means that you no can longer register, update, renew, delete or move contacts and domain names.

If you are still the registrar for any domain names, these will be moved to REG0. This means that the domain names no longer have a registrar. When this happens the holders will be notified and asked to find a new registrar.

If you have any money left on your balance, it will be transferred to the bank account number registered on the registrar web under the tab Accounting.

How to terminate the current agreement before the deadline

If you already know that you do not want to continue as a registrar, you can send us a termination of the agreement.

If you want to cooperate with another registrar or need to find a new registrar for your domain portefolio, you can find one on the list of registrars that have entered into the new agreement.

If you have any questions in regard to the transition to a new registrar agreement, please contact us on phone +47 73 55 73 55 or by email info@norid.no.
