Payment of the annual fee
This page gives a detailed description of the process for payment of the annual fee.
The month before the expiry date
During this period the registrar reports which domains he wants to renew. Through this renewal the registrar guarantees payment of the annual fee to Norid. If the registrar has automatic renewal he must use withdraw for the domains he does not want to renew. On his account on the registrar web each registrar can see which domains expire during the coming month.
Domains which have been renewed by the expiry date
Domains which have been renewed are billed monthly on the invoice which is generated on the first day of each month. Renewals are instant and cannot be cancelled.
Domains which have not been renewed by the expiry date
An email stating that the domain has not been renewed is sent to the holder. The domain has to be renewed within 60 days.
Renewals can be done by the current registrar, or by a new registrar transferring the domain to himself. A registrar who transfers a domain which has expired to himself must at the same time renew the domain and thus guarantees for the annual fee. The annual fee is billed on the next monthly invoice from Norid.
- 14 days after the expiry date
If the domain has still not been renewed 14 days after the first email, a new email is sent to all contact addresses registered on the domain.
- 1 month after the expiry date
If the domain has still not been renewed one month after the first email notification, a final notification is sent by letter to the holder.
- 2 months after the expiry date
Domains that have still not been renewed by a registrar after two months are removed from the .no zone and put into quarantine. The domain now stops working. If one of these domains is renewed within one month, the deletion process is stopped and the domain is included in the .no zone again.
- 3 months after the expiry date
Domains which have not been renewed by the end of the quarantine period, are deleted from the database and made available to other applicants.
