If the business that holds a domain subscription is deleted from the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities (Enhetsregisteret), or if the subscription has not been renewed by its expiry date, an automatic process is initiated that eventually results in the domain subscription being deleted and the domain name being released.
In 2023, we removed postal notifications to subscribers as part of these deletion processes. We will not resume sending letters, but have instead made a few minor changes to the processes. The following has been changed:
1. We have added an email reminder to the process that is initiated when a business is deleted from the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities. The reminder is sent 30 days after the initial notification.
2. The reminder sent when a subscription is not renewed is now sent after 30 days instead of 14 days.
The new processes are described below and will be put into operation on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
New process descriptions
Notification that the subscription has not been renewed
Day 0: Notification is sent to the subscriber's primary email address.
Day 30: Notification is sent to the subscriber's primary email address and to the primary email address registered for technical contacts.
Day 60: The domain name is removed from DNS.
Day 90: The domain name is deleted from the database.
Notification that the business has been deleted from the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities
Day 0*: Notification is sent to the subscriber's primary email address. The registrar receives an EPP service message.
Day 30: Notification is sent to the subscriber's primary email address and to the primary email address registered for technical contacts. The registrar receives an EPP service message.
Day 60: The domain name is removed from DNS. The registrar receives an EPP service message.
Day 90: The domain name is deleted from the database. The registrar receives an EPP service message.
* The process starts no earlier than 60 days after the business has been deleted from the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities.
Lists on the registrar web
We would like to remind all registrars that the registrar web contains lists showing all domain names in their portfolio that are currently subject to active deletion processes. There are separate lists for each of the two processes described above.
There is also a list showing subscribers deleted from the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities, where the deletion process for the domain names has not yet been started.
The lists can be found under the Domain Portfolio menu item.
