Yesterday, 23 May, all domains within the second-level category domains kommune.no and herad.no were transferred to Norid. All is now set for the registrars to do their part.

The transfer is complete, and the registrars can now start transferring their customers' domains to their accounts. Please be aware that this only relates to domains ending in kommune.no and herad.no. Municipalities and counties do, as many other organizations, often have several domain names, not necessarily with the same registrar.

From the info email sent 15 May:

Registrars that are already responsible for municipal domain names must contact their customers and collect an applicant declaration. The registrar must also check that the registered information for the domains is correct. The registrar then transfers the domain from REG999998-NORID, adds applicant declaration data, and corrects contacts information when necessary.

Many very important services are run on domains under kommune.no and herad.no, and Norid consider it to be a serious breach if registrars take over domains without this being cleared with the municipal.

On 28 August 2017 Norid will contact all municipals with domains that are still not associated with a registrar, and ask them to find one.
