Norid changes interval and time for publishing of zonefiles.

Starting on 9 September 2014 08:00 CEST Norid will publish zone files every other hour between 8 and 20 on Monday to Friday, and every 4 hours at evening/night and during weekends.

The zone files will be generated at 4 am, 8 am, 10 am, 12 am, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and 12 pm, local time on weekdays, and at 4 am, 8 am, 12 am, 4 pm, 8 pm and 12 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Complete publishing to Norid's DNS servers takes up to half an hour.

Norid would like to remind the registrars that domains are deleted from the database all day. Until now this has not taken effect in the zone files before the next ordinary zone file publishing, i.e. at daytime during weekdays. Deletion will now be effective at the next zone file generation, both at evening/night and during weekends.

All nameserver updates are now automatic. It may take up to half an hour from the generation of the zone file by selecting data from the registry database until the zone file is published from Norid's nameservers. In addition it may take up to 15 minutes to make changes to nameservers through EPP. If it is important to make a change effective for example during the zone file generation at 8 am, the change has to be done via EPP before 7:45 am. If the update passes Norid's DNScheck it will then be published by Norid's nameservers before 8:30 am. It may then take some time (due to the TTL of cached data) before the change is visible to the end-user's resolver. TTL for Norid's zones is 2 hours.

To celebrate this change Norid wish to invite our registrars to an informal event (including cake) at our premises in Abelsgt. 5 (Teknobyen) in Trondheim, Norway on Tuesdag 9 September 2 pm CEST. If you wish to join, please send an email to magni.onsoien@uninett.no with name of registrar and the number of people coming, before Monday at 10 am CEST. Welcome!
