CENTR, Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries, has made a registrar survey on registrar identification and authentication. For the continued work in this area, it is importantant that as many registrars as possible take part in the survey.

Se below for more information from CENTR about the survey.

About CENTR

Dear Registrar,

CENTR, the organisation by and for European ccTLDs has developed a survey on registrar identification and authentication.

The idea for a survey came up during a workshop held in Stockholm. The goal of the workshop was to study if and how Registries can increase the security level for access to their web portals and to evaluate whether they should introduce either One Time Password or Two Factor Authentication technology rather than rely on the conventional userid/password combination.

Several tld’s have started to work on how to identify registrars in a more secure way. This has raised a well-based concern from the registrar community that the registries will end up with a number of different solutions and technical choices. The risk is that since the registrars mostly serves more than one registry, they will end up with managing a number of different methods to identify themselves to the registry in question.

One way forward to avoid this evolution is to start a discussion on how to identify and authenticate registrars not only in a more secure but also a standardized and harmonized way.

The goal of this survey is to understand the registrars view on this topic.

Many thanks!

Kind regards
the CENTR secretariat
