Norid is planning to introduce a new payment model. The current model with deposits will be replaced with a model where each registrar has their own account with a balance that can be increased when needed. The goal is to offer registrars a more flexible payment model.

The transition to a new payment model will require some changes to the registrar agreement. The plan is to implement these changes within autumn this year.

Description of the model

  1. The registrar prepays an optional amount which will be registered on his account on the registrar web within a few days. The registrar will receive a payment confirmation by email after all payments. Registrars can also choose to receive a payment voucher before they submit payments.

  2. Like today, each registrar can see their own balance on the registrar web. As the registrar perform transactions which demands payment (new registrations, change of holder and renewals), the fee will be deducted from the balance. If the balance is too low, it will not be possible to perform transactions that demands payment before the balance has been increased as described above.

  3. At the end of each month, registrars who have used some of their pre payment will receive a credit balance (cash invoice) which shows how much have been used and how much remains of the pre payments. The credit balance is only issued to show the balance and should not be paid.

The credit balance will be issued by email or regular post the same way as the current invoices.

This payment model will replace the current model with deposits, and all registrars will have their deposit refunded when the transition to the new model is made.

Further process

The new payment model has previously been discussed with the registrar association Dot-Enno, and was presented on the registrar seminar 26 April (In Norwegian only). We encourage all registrars to read the description and report any feed back as soon as possible and no later than 1 August 2017.

The transition to a new payment model will also require some changes to the registrar agreement. There will therefore be made some revisions to the current registrar agreement. You will receive more information about the implementation as soon as this is clear.

More information about the time schedule and practical details for the new model will be issued later.
